ALL ABOUT KITCHENS!!

A durable sprayed lacquer finish on your cabinets is bar none the best way to look like you’ve got a new kitchen without breaking the bank! Because of the amount of requests I have for info on refinishing kitchens I thought it may be easiest to have this to send people. It may look overwhelming but it’s not, honestly!! PLEASE NOTE: We will do your bathroom or laundry room also but ONLY if we do it at the same time as your kitchen.

Because of the amount of requests I have for info on refinishing kitchens I thought it may be easiest to have this to send people to. It may look overwhelming but it’s not, honestly!!  PLEASE NOTE: we will do your bathroom or laundry room for you but ONLY at the same time we are doing your kitchen.

Since each kitchen is unique we'd rather get pictures from you and find out what color/colors you're wanting, what type of wood we are refinishing over and the current color of it, etc before giving you a project price. Info and pics can be sent to [email protected]

Common questions:
Q. do we charge more for larger kitchen doors and less for smaller? A. Not unless they are double the size of an average door. Other than that we figure it all averages out in the end.
Q. how about lazy susan doors? A. that's two doors put together so we count that as two doors.
Q. how about the fake drawers under the sink? A. we count those as a drawer because we take it off, bring to workshop and spray it.
Q. Can you do oak or veneer? A. Yes, the majority of the kitchens we do are oak. They finish up beautifully!!!
Q. Can you do cabinets with therma-foil doors? A. Yes, they finish up great!

DETAILS THAT DETERMINE THE PRICE:
1. Are your cabinets currently oak? Oak has a deep grain and requires more coats to look excellent.
2. What color are you wanting cabinets done in? We specifically need to know if you will be wanting a pure white as that always requires more coats to look excellent. A slight off white like Benny Moore white dove doesn't require as many coats as a pure white. Weird but just how it is.
3. What color are you cabinets currently? If the cabinets are a darker color they may need a 3rd coat of paint. If they are oak and dark they may need 4 coats.
4. Do you want the underneath the upper cabinets done? Sometimes (rarely) this area can be seen and it’ll look unfinished it not refinished to match.
5. Is there dentil molding, or other time consuming detail work, on the cabinet housing?
6. Are there small built in shelves on outside of cabinets or something similar? We usually see this on the top cabinets that are on either side of the kitchen sink.
7. Do you have cabinet doors that have glass? If yes, would you want inside the glass area done?
8. Are you going to switch out the hardware and need current holes filled and/or need new holes drilled?
9. If they are currently coated with therma-foil (plastic coating). It comes off great, just takes a bit of extra time.
10. Do you want the toe kick area done?
11. If they are exceptionally greasy and we need to spend additional time on that it will cost a bit more. We've only had that a few times but I feel I need to let people know that up front.
12. Would you want them distressed or glazed?

What we need from you to give you a price in addition to answers to the above questions:
1. A few pictures of your kitchen:
a. A close up of a door, we would like to see details along with a good idea of the current color.
b. A close up of top of cabinets (like where it attaches to the ceiling if it goes that high up)
c. Any glass door areas that may need to be painted inside
d. Any shelf or other unusual areas that need to be taken into consideration
2. Cabinet door/drawer count. Please see notes above to be sure you’re counting them correctly.
AGAIN, PLEASE SEND THESE TO [email protected]

If you’d like an in-home color-consultation we’d be happy to do that. Base cost for that is $50 and covers up to one hour. We will bring color samples, calculator and calendar.

For the OUT-OF-TOWN clients: Sorry but with the amount of requests we have to do kitchens within a 30 mile radius of us it simply doesn't make sense to work further than that.

Lacquer is a sprayed on finish so your cabinets will look like they just came from the factory. Very durable, very scrubbable!!

We are usually booked about 3-4 MONTHS out so make sure you reserve your week in advance.

Redesign made fun!!

Well, it took a while but we're ready to build one for you. My builder did a spectacular job and sometimes perfection takes time!! Solid wood construction with well joined seams, crag screws, and a super fun sliding door are just a few of the finer details we paid attention to. When we finish the piece for you we'll pay just as close of attention to those details also. Let's be honest; one of the differences between a good job and an excellent job is paying attention to the details that other "professionals" miss or choose to ignore.

Because we can make them just about any size the list of ideas they could be used for is fairly long!!  TV console, buffet, sideboard, bathroom vanity, kitchen island, sofa table, foyer table, etc. Another style we hope to offer soon would be a desk. If you have other ideas or would like them tweaked a bit more for you please feel free to ask. We love a challenge!!

These are 100% custom made: size, color, # of doors plus the style of them, etc.
Because they are custom made we'll need a bit of info from you before we can give you a price.

1. What are the dimensions you'd like it to be? Mine is 48w x 14d x 28h. We wanted something fairly shallow so it wouldn't take up much room in the bedroom.
2. How many doors would you like? Mine only has one because we felt with the width we wanted that one door made more sense than two super small doors.
3. What style of door would you like? We can do the X like how mine was done. We can do slats of wood that go on an angle or straight up/down slats of wood.
4. How many shelves would you like? Mine has one because the piece isn't that tall. If you have us make you a piece 40" high it'd probably look better to have two shelves.
5. How would you like it finished? We wanted some stained wood in addition to a solid color but we can do it all solid or all stained too.

Because these are custom made you should plan on 4-6 weeks for your piece to be completed. We will need a 50% non-refundable deposit. We want to give you a rough idea of how these will be priced. If we did one for you like mine (size, 2 color finish, X on door, one shelf) it'd be $550.

I've had this old beast of a china cabinet kicking around for over a year now.  I knew when purchasing it that they aren't great sellers but this was made so dang well I could hardly resist.......so I didn't. A year later I decided it was time to dust it off and do something with it so it will be simply irresistible : )  Got lots of input from my FB friends and then someone shared with me "the idea".  Now I'm on a mission.  BTW:  as of the time of writing this the cabinet is AVAILABLE.

First thing we did was removed the two middle drawers and filled the hinge holes.  It opens it up quite nicely. Left door is going back on but had to be moved to get the shelves out. We also took out the divider between drawers 2 and 3.  John is building an X for that area.  Great place for wine bottles, towels/washclothes is used for a bathroom, movies/games/toys if used in a great room. Lots!!! of work to even get the piece this far. Without the prep work being done the right way plus the right primer the rest of the job just won't go right.

One of the things we figured out after starting to work on it is that the lattice in the bottom doors isn't a real piece of lattice.  It's 2 separate pieces which can be used together or by individually which makes it quite versatile since you can use it 3 different ways for 3 different looks.

Picture
If you don't want lattice of any kind you can flip this part to the outside and you have a totally different look.

A little sneak peak of the color here.  The entire inside of the top part will be done in BM OC-122 cotton ball and the remainder in SW reflecting pool.  It's going to be gorgeous!! At this point the whole thing is done and I'm just waiting on John for the X.  It should be ready to go by Wednesday.  This will look beautiful in your home in Grand Rapids or your cottage in Holland, Grand Haven or Traverse City.

Ok, for those of you who haven't seen the finished piece on "ready to go" page here it is. Needless to say, I'm thrilled with how it turned out.  At this time it is available!!
